Effect of structured teaching program on stress and caregivers' burden of adult and elderly patients with bladder cancer
Keywords:

Background: Bladder cancer ranks globally as the seventh most prevalent cancer. The adverse impact experienced by caregivers, such as cancer caring burden, reduced free time, and insufficient rest time, could bring both physical and psychological burdens to cancer caregivers. Therefore, the study aimed to determine the effect of structured teaching program on stress and caregivers' burden of adult and elderly patients with bladder cancer. Design: To conduct this study a quasi-experimental design (pre and post-test one group) was utilized. Setting: This study was conducted in a urology outpatient clinic at the oncology institution Sohag City. Subject: A convenient sample of 100 (50 bladder cancer patients and 50 of their caregivers) were enrolled in the current study. Data collection tools: Tool I: Participants’ demographic and disease-related characteristics assessment sheet, Tool II: Caregiver's knowledge about bladder cancer, Tool III: Caregivers' reported practices about bladder cancer, Tool IV: Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), and Tool V: Zarit Caregiver Burden Interview (ZBI). Results: The current study showed that, following instructional guidelines implementation, knowledge, practices, caregiver burdens, and Perceived Stress ' mean scores were improved with statistically significantly differences.
